Most huts (including the one I lived in) in Sambande have grass roofs, which leak during the rainy season and are frequently infested with termites, spiders, lizards, mice and snakes (which come to eat the mice and lizards). A grass roof lasts two seasons at best, and requires a lot of work to repair and replace. I want to give my mom a tin roof that will last indefinitely, provide a real barrier against creepy crawlies, and keep her dry when it rains.
