95% of the huts in Sambande are made with mud bricks that are dried in the sun before being used to build. When the rains come, the bricks begin to deteriorate and shift position, often forming huge cracks in the walls and weakening the whole structure which eventually leads to collapse. I want to build my mom a new house out of cement blocks, that will stand up to the rains and remain structurally sound for her whole life. $30 will purchase one bag of cement, that will be used to make approximately 80 cement blocks by hand using a metal mold. The hut will most likely require 10 bags of cement.
